Decluttering home decluttering mind and time

For the past 4 weeks, I have had the urge to purge. Literally declutter all, till only the bare minimum needed is left. Declutter as if there was a near-future house move and an objective to pack as little as possible. After all, why have the burden to move and bring stuff that is used only on occasion? To form more clutter?

I have parted with items that I never thought I would one day, let go. It is a process and certainly not an overnight decision. It pushed my comfort zone to expand the boundary of the bare minimum. What is enough? What does really matter enough to keep? Something used on a regular basis, at least once a week? Something with a strong emotional value? Something that can be used for dual purposes? Something that is both beautiful and purposeful? Does stuff really matter? Does stuff help us move closer to our goals? Or does stuff steal our time and attention away from our goals? Do the benefits of having that stuff outweigh the negatives?

How do I feel about this? Surprisingly all right.

As a matter of fact, the sensation of enough and abundance is getting stronger and stronger. The more I part with, the stronger the feeling. Despite having less now, a feeling of plenty grows. I thought I would regret parting with these things but so far, nothing, just a feeling of lightness and freedom. Freedom of the mind. Freedom that stuff does not control us.

It has cleared space in the cupboards. Finished overfilled cupboard that one dares to open just in case something falls off. More free space. Space is luxe and expensive. Having empty space is truly luxurious. Space gives a feeling of abundance and wealth. It gives clarity of mind and helps focus.

It is taking much less time to clean the house now. And it is so much easier too! No stuff to move around to be able to clean. It is now a straightforward sweep.

It frees time to do activities that matter. More time to do gardening. More time to paint. More time to write. More time to fly and more importantly, more time to be with people that matter.

I have gained a little bit of money from the sales. More money in the bank or more money to allocate to new experiences.

I have become more creative too: a large earthen pitcher? It is now also used as a teapot. Creativity sometimes invites simplicity in our lives. Overcomplicating when simple can be the right answer had burdens on our minds. Simplicity creates beauty in everyday life.

Now I want to keep going on with decluttering. Next to part with more clothes till the 20% of the wardrobe used makes 100% of my wardrobe; food blender, eiderdown, china dinner set, Himalayan salt lamp, … So much more still to go.
